Guildford Chess Club

Welcome to our world!

We aim to provide a safe and secure inclusive environment for all chess players to play and learn about chess.

We are one of the strongest chess clubs in the UK, with over 50 regular adult players and 100 juniors in membership, spanning the complete ability range from beginner to expert.

We currently field 20 teams across four leagues – the Surrey League, the Surrey Border League, the 4 Nations Chess League and the 4NCL Online. Some of our members also play for Surrey County teams and have represented England at both Junior and Senior levels.

Our regular club night is at 7.30pm on Mondays night for adults (earlier for juniors) from September to July at the Guildford Institute on Ward Street – we're closed in August and on Bank Holidays.

We encourage all our members to participate in the life of the club in some way.

Three Guildford Juniors represent England!

Huge congratulations to three members of the Guildford Junior section who were recently selected to represent England in three separate age groups for matches against Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

Ronit Sachdeva played on board 3/5 in the Glorney Cup (U18) and was England’s top scorer with 4½ out of 6 with an impressive performance rating of 1881. England secured second place behind a strong team from Scotland.

Zac Welling played on board 5/6 in the Robinson Cup (U14) and was again England’s top scorer with 5 out of 6 and a performance rating of 1648. England, who were undefeated, pipped Scotland to the title.

Adam Sefton played on board 4/6 in the Stokes Cup (U12) scoring 6/6 (along with three of his team mates) and achieving a very impressive performance rating of 2003. England totally dominated this event, comfortably winning all of their matches.

The club is delighted to have three such talented players in our junior ranks and we know that they are an inspiration to the many other promising juniors at the club.
